This year we are celebrating our 71th anniversary with our traditional international chess tournament on October 5, 6, 7 and 8. We hereby invite you to participate at this unique chess event in Aruba and wish you a pleasant stay on our “One Happy Island”. We can arrange rooms for you in Tropicana Resorts, Quality Appartments or Appartments in Oranjestad.

This tournament will be played in three groups.

Open Group    :           Open for players of all ages

Group U-18    :           Youth players under 18 years (as per 1 January 2017)

Group U-12    :           Youth players under 12 years (as per 1 January 2017)\

Tournament System

Swiss System: 7 rounds Open Group & Youth Group U-18

                        9 rounds Youth Group U-12

Time Control:

Open and Youth U18 Group  : 90 minutes per player + 30 seconds increment/move since move 1

Youth U-12 Group                 : 30 minutes per player

Tie breaks

1. Scored Points, Buchholz (WP), Sonneborn-Berger (SB), Mutual Result, Progressive Score (PS), TPR and Rating.

2. Cash prizes will not be divided. Final places will be calculated based on the above mentioned tiebreak rules.

Waiting Time

30 minutes after the start of the round

Cellulars
Mobile phones must be turned off.

If a cell-phone makes any sound during the game, this game will be declared lost for the cell-phone owner.

Recording of the Moves

Recording of the moves is mandatory in the Open group and U-18 group

In the U-12 group, the players may record their moves, but this is optional.

FIDE laws and rating

Games in the Open and U-18 Group are valid for the official FIDE rating.

FIDE LAWS OF CHESS WILL BE APPLIED FOR ALL OTHER SITUATIONS NOT MENTIONED ABOVE.
